Thanks to popularity of "hips don't lie"This is classic example of how one person can completely make one particular dance so famous. I am from India originally and I relate to the fact in 70s Amitabh Bachchan made Bhojpuri dance steps so famous in a country with population at that time close to 70 crores with a single hit of Don k/a "Khaike pan banaras wala". John Travolta made "Disco" so popular with his routine in "Saturday night fever" and Patrick Swayze made "Dirty Dancing" a religion among young crowd in his era.
Today, if you look everywhere Belly dance is so popular, suddenly everybody wants to learn it. Recently Beyonce stated that Shakira actually taught her Belly dance for the new popular hit "Beautiful Liar"
